ABOUT
Thomas Yackimec (he/him/his) is a composer, arranger, drummer, teacher and voice artist based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Originally from Lac La Biche, Alberta, he has been practicing music professionally for over 14 years and has been teaching privately at Crescendo Music Studios since 2023.
Thomas is a graduate of MacEwan University’s Bachelor of Music program in 2018 majoring in composition/percussion and a graduate of Western University's Master of Music program in 2024 majoring in composition. He has previously studied with composers Allan Gilliland and Kent Sangster, drummer Dan Skakun and has recently been under private instruction with esteemed composers Vincent Ho, Andrew Noseworthy and Paul Frehner.
Thomas’s proudest moments have been (among many others) writing for the River City Jazz Orchestra, Obsessions String Quartet, cellist Justin Lepard, guitarist Andrew Noseworthy and violinist Annette-Barbara Vogel. In terms of the music he works in, he is not afraid to be fluid in stylistic boundaries, be it jazz, blues, metal, funk, avant-garde, and many other styles. His music is marked by extremes in rhythm, angular, yet lyrical melodies and a hard bent towards using pre-existing melody and harmony for deeper musical exploration and mathematical rigour.
Beyond the music, Thomas has also developed into a full-fledged voice artist. He has done a few audiobooks, commercials and is on his way to further projects. He also has an in-home studio that he works from.
